The Magic Trio eating plan is based around intermittent fasting.
Now that you have fat loss as the objective and know how to measure it, it’s time to talk about how to do it. Intermittent fasting is one of the easiest ways to lose fat. Let’s face it. There aren’t many options for an easy fat loss diet plan out there. It’s ironic that so many people focus on what to eat in order to lose fat when one of the best ways to lose fat is to simply refrain from eating. After I began intermittent fasting, I was able to reduce my body fat percentage by over 65% in less than a year. Sure, there were other factors that contributed to this, but intermittent fasting was a major one. There are two main reasons why people don’t consider intermittent fasting when attempting to lose fat. First, they are afraid of causing their body to go into “starvation mode”. Second, they think it’s too difficult.

Intermittent fasting is the best fat loss diet plan.
First, let me address the starvation mode myth.
Your body will not go into starvation mode if you go without eating for 20 to 24 hours which is the length of time I recommend for a fast. There is no internal panic button that goes off after a few hours of not eating that signals to your body that it is in danger and that it must immediately hold on to body fat stores. On the contrary, your body will burn off stored body fat as energy after a few hours of fasting due to the absence of food energy. Our hunter gatherer ancestors often went for 24 hours or more without eating because they didn’t have readily accessible food and they were leaner and fitter than we are. It’s not like a deer or bison would show up on their doorstep every few hours. The starvation mode myth was created by the food industry to convince people that they need to eat every few hours so that they will buy more food. Did I mention you’re going to save a ton of money on food by practicing intermittent fasting?
Intermittent fasting doesn’t have to be torturous.
Now that I’ve hopefully convinced you that intermittent fasting isn’t a bad thing, on to the next point. Intermittent fasting may be challenging at first. However, it’s not difficult if you go about it the right way. It’s actually more of a mental challenge than anything. It mostly involves changing the way your mind is programmed to think about eating. I think we have all experienced a time when we weren’t hungry, but somehow convinced ourselves to eat. Well, it can also work the other way around. This might cause some temporary discomfort, but if it were easy, everyone would do it. Just suck it up and get over it. Quit telling yourself you can’t skip a meal or two and just do it. Once you start doing it regularly, it becomes second nature.
One more important thing to note…
When it comes to intermittent fasting, remember that you’re not starving yourself. You are working towards a goal. Also, you should initially only do this once or twice per week. Any more than that and you are less likely to stick with it over the long haul and long-term dedication is what yields results. In fact, I recommend only one 20 to 24 hour fast per week when you first start out. The reason I recommend 20 to 24 hours is that research has shown that fat burning increases significantly after 18 hours of fasting. Those of you who are really ambitious will love the next chapter. To learn more about intermittent fasting, the best resource you can read is Brad Pilon’s Eat Stop Eat. I strongly recommend this book for anyone who wants to learn how intermittent fasting works and why it’s the simplest and most effective fat loss diet plan out there.

So true on many accounts. When I first read about intermittent fasting I thought that it was definitely an extreme-dieting approach and I’d never give it a shot. Today, guess what I’m doing … a 24 hour fast to jump start my diet after the weekend and get the week off on the right note.
Intermittent fasting works and after reading through ESE and getting all of the facts I can actually say that it isn’t an extreme diet, but rather a smart and healthy diet.

Kevin,
I agree that intermittent fasting is smart and healthy. ESE isn’t extreme at all once you get the hang of it. I also like to fast on Mondays. Fasting is particularly effective after a cheat day because elevated leptin levels create an ideal fat-burning environment.
